The Representation of Teenagers In The Daily Mail

Image
After searching Mail online teenagers, the only stories that appeared were related to drugs, murder, crime and death, although what i searched had no relation to these subjects. The representation of teenagers in the daily mail is incredibly poor. the headlines are sure to use 'Teenage' in their headlines to portray a bad image directed at teenagers.  The images used in the headlines of the accused and or victims, especially girls, are shown in images that will make adults disgusted. For example the article about Shauna Davies above uses an image that exposes her cleavage. An image that isn't the most respectful towards a recently deceased girl. But the Mail will have used this to portray a shameful image for adults.  Language used to describe teens in the articles is mainly negative. teens are described as 'thugs', 'hoodies', 'gangs' etc. words such as 'terrorised' are used hyperbolically to emphasise how bad

Textual analysis - Mad Men

How is the representation of gender constructed in the text? After watching the extract from mad men, it is clear that there is a major difference between the way women and men are represented in the TV drama. The establishing bird’s eye view shot shows a number of 1960’s era cars and yellow cabs and a typical office building to introduce the setting as 1960’s New York, a time when sexism was at a high. Not long after this elevator shot the three men enter their bosses office; this new character is introduced with a close up to emphasise his importance to the drama. He is shown talking to his fiancĂ© and telling her to go shopping instead of worrying about him, emphasising the control men had over women. Later one of the three original men mentions that the reason is marrying this woman is becau

The Male Gaze in Music Videos

Bad Blood – Taylor Swift The video is aimed at women because of the empowering of women seen throughout the video. It begins with two women fighting a group of males to introduce this female > male world. The video continues to show well-known women to be equipped with high tech weapons and possessing incredible skills. This emphasises the empowering of women as they are quite simply seen to be literally very powerful. The lack of powerful males seen in the video emphasises the specific aim towards women. Tunnel Vision – Justin Timberlake At first sight, a viewer may see the exposure of female breasts on screen to be absurd. But after looking deeper into the meaning behind the video, it becomes clearer that the video could have an empowering essence for women, but overall, the video is more degrading. On purpose, the lighting teases the nudity of the dancing women as we, as an audience are used to seeing the exposure of the female body on screen. But when the full expos
