Daily Mail and The Guardian.
When looking at how the guardian and the daily mail
represent the same story, the obvious differences arise around the fact that
the daily mail is a right wing tabloid newspaper and the guardian is a left
wing broadsheet. Below is a list of all the conventions seen in each newspaper
The Guardian:
Media language:

Uses a Large amount of copy as it is a
broadsheet and informative newspaper

The layout is clean and clear as it a much more
expensive paper and doesn’t need to make room for splash story headlines and
ads
·
The use of yellow compliments the guardians
traditional blue, creating an eye catching effect for readers.

The use of a logo for the paradise papers can
emphasise the importance of the topic and can make it easily recognisable for
when they comment on the story in the future
·
The use of smaller articles on the front page
that relate to the splash story can reinforce the ideas being explored
·
All the topics on the cover offer the same ideologies;
this allows fewer distractions off the topic for the reader.

mostly online, The Guardians target audience is middle class and therefore is
mostly online because the audience can afford to look at it online with their
phone.

The price of the guardian is £2.00 because it is
a broadsheet newspaper. A broadsheet will contain much more information than a
tabloid newspaper, which explains the increase in price.
End of audience theory:

The copy may be an example of the new media
where the consumer is the producer, not professionals, which is second hand
information.
The Daily Mail
The daily mails coverage of this story offers different
ideologies to the guardian’s coverage because of their agenda. The daily mail
is a right wing newspaper and is therefore in favour of the monarch. This is
shown in the main headline of the issue, in which they describe the queen to be
“dragged” into the tax row, suggesting that it was forced upon her and she is a
victim; Unlike The Guardian who describe her to exploit the poor.
Media language:

The use of a large headline for the splash story
is an easy way of gaining an audiences attention.
